Picasa Web Albums - Have you got one?
by Lilian ·
I have received the free Picasa Web Albums from Google yesterday after submitting my interest two days ago. You need a gmail account with Google in order to apply. It offers:
* A free download of the Picasa software for uploading your photos to the web in one or two clicks.
* Your own shareable Picasa Web Albums homepage showing all your public albums.
* Enough free storage to post and share approximately 1000 photos (an option for upgrading to more space is also available).
* Big, high-resolution pictures that set a new standard for online viewing. You can even download a friend’s photos off the web to print at home using Picasa.
* Fun easy-to-use online tools, like captions, comments, rotate, zoom, and full-screen slideshows.
It is real easy to upload photos to PICASA but with only 250MB storage space, it is rather small. I only uploaded ONE single photo and it took up 1% of the storage already. This means, I can only store about 250 photos.
I haven’t check out all the features but I think Google doesn’t allow sharing the photos on our website/blogs. Well, I guess I can’t complain ‘cos it is free. But I guess I won’t be using it as often as Flickr. Flickr costs only USD24.95 and they provide kick-ass large 2GB space PER MONTH upload. (read what Flickr Pro provides)
Take a look at what Picasa’s upgrade offer:
Now for only $25 per year, you can add around 25,000 wallpaper-sized photos to your Picasa Web Albums account.
You’ll enjoy:
- 6GB extra storage space in your Picasa Web Albums account.
- 12 months of hassle-free uploading and sharing
No complicated monthly bandwidth limits to keep track of.
Anyway, if you are interested, go to Picasa Web Albums and submit your interest using your gmail address and hopefully you get to test out this too.
