Had been out hunting for a cheap digital camera that we can afford to let the kids play around. Finally, found two models under the price of RM700.
Here’s what I gathered after visiting two shops and talked to two guys who are familiar to us:
Nikon – Comes with 1GB SD card, AA battery charger and a more famous brand. However the speed is slow. 5MP.
Pentax – Way better than Nikon features, 7 MP and a much newer release but no freebies
Both guys advised against getting Nikon due to several reasons, one of them being the higher percentage of customers returning the cameras for repairs.
I took my SD card along and took several shots from both camera. Then, I return home to compare the shots and for around RM680 and below, the Pentax Optio is a good buy.
I had done a quick check between Nikon Coolpix L4 and Pentax Optio M20 on dpreview and yeap, the Pentax wins.
So, the Pentax will be our third camera. The above are shots taken in supermacro mode. Pentax Optio has a more manageable settings and my kid loves the scenes provided.
The regular camera guy we know to is trying to get me to buy Casio Exlim. I love the camera but no….it is almost twice the price of these two models. Maybe when my prosumer konked out….
