My son’s camera which costs me less than RM700 has served him well. It is a Pentax M20 and takes great macro and supermacro shots, nice day photos and with 7 megapixels, it has put my Konica Z3 out of service. My poor prosumer Konica model is hardly used anymore because the LCD is only 1.5 inch and looks so weird compared to my son’s 2.5 inches LCD. Moreover, my Konica is only 4.2 MP and though takes great supermacro, it is still not as good as a 7 MP, given the proper lighting etc.
I notice dpreview just announced the release of a new model, Pentax M30. I am not sure how much the camera is but I am sure it won’t be as expensive as those widely advertised brands like Canon and Nikon. In fact, Pentax is a lot cheaper in price and yet, superior in functions and quality of photos.
So, do consider Pentax on your next camera shopping. Don’t just grab the most widely advertised model because they are usually a lot more expensive. On a secret note, my regular camera shop guy told me to avoid Canon and Panasonic because lately, their qualities have dropped and they received a lot of customers complaints. Well, don’t take my words for it, it may not be true. But well….
