Olympus µ (mju) 700 with BrightCapture Technology

by Lilian ·

Remember that I don’t do product review and neither will I copy and paste camera reviews by others just for the sake of posting. However, sometimes, I do feel the itch to check out camera models and if I am in the vicinity, I can always drop by the camera shop for a touch-see.

So, here is one camera that I would like to own if I have spare cash. Firstly, it is an all-weather model meaning I don’t have to worry about rain nor waves. Note that cameras are very sensitive to moisture and can grow fungus! So, always keep your camera dry or you will never know what will happen to the insides.

Secondly, it boasts of the BrightCapture Technology which can capture photos in darker places. Just the thing to overcome those ‘why i can’t take nice photo in the dark‘ problem.

Lastly, it has 20 programmes including macro and supermacro. Wow, a neat little thing for dummies!

The cost? A mere RM1,199 as advertised. An even better model, Olympus µ (mju) 810 costs RM1,699 which comes with Image stabilisation. I will not bore you with ISO, aperture etc. You can read them on one of the best camera review site - dpreview.

Check out this model if you have intention to buy a camera. For me, Olympus ranked high up there on my choice of camera brands. Canon lost my interest the day they took on Mawi (a local singer from one of those reality show). Nikon used to be the classic choice but lately, they are producing far too many new models at too fast a rate. Your purchase today will become yesterday’s news the moment you get out of the shop. As for Sony and Panasonic, they produce TV and such, don’t they? So, that leaves Konica-Minolta which is retired, Fuji and Olympus. I also have a Olympus µ camera with film somewhere in my cabinet and a Nikon too.

Any satisfied owner of Olympus out there?

I’m using Fujifilm Finepix F410 for about 2 years already.. i think those pictures taken in dark, the background’s bright enough.. pretty good camera :) but back then, it cost about RM1300+, so i think this Olympus is a good catch.. I don’t mind changing too if i have extra cash.. haha

I am using a now extinct or ancient Olympus C-730 UZ which is already about 3.5 years and yet going strong.
Its a good camera, and Olympus back up service is equally good. The only flaw that Olympus has is with the use of XD cards, which are not only expensive but is much slower than the likes of SD and such.
I wouldn’t go back for Olympus unless they dropped XD and started using SD cards instead.

What a coincidence! I was thinking about getting Olympus µ (mju) 700 or 810 if I had extra moolah. I own a conventional Olympus (love the photos it produced) and a digital Nikon. Both are gifts. :-)
