I found this from dpreview about these two models of Canon cameras and thought it may interest some of the users.
Apparently, certain series of these two models have some faults in the spring and it may cause overheating of the camera. You can read the full release from Canon. I am not sure if the cameras are those sold here or only in the USA.

Affected Cameras
PowerShot A530, PowerShot A540 Digital CamerasPlease check the first two numbers from the left in the serial number listed on the bottom of the camera.
The serial number: Cameras with “21″, “22″, “23″, “24″, as the first two numbers from the left.
