Camera - Good gift for Father’s Day

by Lilian ·

Father’s Day is just round the corner. I am writing this for those working adults whose fathers are elderly and especially for those young families where the grandpa is helping to watch out for the grandkids.

I spent most of my evenings at the public park and notice how doting grandfathers are toward their little grandchildren. During my outings, I also notice that many elderly gentlemen are still holding on to their faithful SLR cameras. Many of them love photography and probably, had not caught up with the fast changing scenes or probably they may not want to spend so much on a digital camera.

This grandpa was taking photos of his grandson. And that’s how I got the idea that proud grandaddies love to pics of their grandkids.

So, filial and loving children, how about giving your fathers a suprise this Father’s Day? Nay….I am not selling you any cameras, just mere ideas. If you have seen how these few gentlemen who lovingly toddle along with their barely walking grandkids, capturing every moment on it on the digital cameras, it will melt your heart. I can imagine the grandpa bringing home these priceless shots to show the parents at the end of the day.

Trust me, a digital camera is LOT easier to handle than a film camera. One needs to know the basic buttons like which is to ‘on’ the camera and where the shutter release, or the ‘thiak’ button is. That’s all there is to know. Some features you may want to look out for are:

  • a camera with image stabilisation because elderly hands are shakey
  • large LCD screen because eyes are not as sharp
  • some camera that auto-focus real fast
  • no frills
  • good handgrip, forget about tiny, compact ones

For only about RM1K, you can get a good camera. Can’t afford? There is the ‘interest free monthly instalment’. Of course, I do not encourage buying goods on credit but for your papa’s sake, it is worth it, isn’t it? It will be a marvellous conversation topic because your dad will probably bores you to tears with what he ate last night or the photos he took with his old friends. Think how chummy that is?
Do it!

Heh, I am extra filial today because I just visited an old folks home. Moreover, I don’t have dad or father-in-law to pamper anymore so this is my bit of contribution for Father’s Day.

P/S : I changed blog template because the previous one is too graphic intensive and ‘ate up’ all my bandwith. I overshot my limit by 100%! Thanks to an excellent webhost, my blogs survived without downtime. This template is from HiTech, also my webhost.
