Any owner of Canon Powershot A60 out there?

by Lilian ·

I have a question related to the flash. So, if you own a Canon Powershot A60 or similar model, I hope you can help to answer “How to turn the flash off?” (someone wants to know, I only have Canon Powershot A10)
I have seen a picture of the camera and believe it involves pressing the flash icon a few times to get to the choice and press ‘enter’ button to make the selection.

I found the specifications from Steves Digicam

and wonder what is :

Low-light focus assist illuminator

Does the camera emits some light before the actual shot? Care to explain, please?

Press the flash button twice, I don’t think you need to press enter or anything (I have an A70).

The flash icon will have a line through it when it’s off.

“Low-light focus assist illuminator” is same as any focus assistant, even SLR has it usually a white/red light at the front that shines in dark conditions to aid the camera focusing before it flashes.

I also own the A70 sometime back … you only need to press the flash button until you see the flash icon (with the line through it as described by ShaolinTiger). No need to press enter or anything.

The “low-light focus assist illuminator” is just an orange light that lights up when you press the shutter release to help the camera focus especially under low light. But somehow I never quite found it useful! In fact, it can be quite disturbing and irritating to your subjects (especially if you’re sneakily shooting something/someone in the dark, it’ll blow your cover!!!)

Sigh … I guess my comment must have gone in the bin again :(

Tks ST. I guess the mom (who took her baby’s photo) was worried about the illuminator. :P

blur - You are right, your comment went into the bin with the porn. :)

Ya, one mom with a new baby was worried if the light can spoilt her baby’s eyes. So, I suggested to take photos only in brighter places. Thanks for your tips, I hope she can switch off the flash now. :P
