Yvy asked if it is worth paying USD24.95 to get a Flick Pro account.
Well…
- not if you have loads of photos on your blog
- not if you bombed your 20MB limit provided by the free account
- not if you are too lazy to re-size your photo
- not if you use a lot of bandwith on your website
- not if you have a big gang of families and friends who have Flickr Pro
- not if you are an addict in taking photos everywhere
- not if you are earning a little income from your website
I fulfilled points 1, 2, 4 and 6.
Right now, I only used up 2% of my monthly allowance, so it is sort of under utilised. The reason is I like to upload small sizes photos of 800 pixles max. Though I am not exactly taking very oustanding photos, people may still take some of those foods photos for their commercial interests. I do have people writing to me asking for permissions to photos on my site. If your photo is small, they aren’t likely to copy image and print them for their own commercial use.
But I thoroughly enjoy Flickr Pro because I can organise my almost 3,000 (number is not limited) photos into their own albums/sets and people can view all 3,000 photos instead of the 200 photos that I was given under the free account.
Mostly, I like Flickr because of the community feel. Plus it is under Yahoo so I don’t think they will close shop anytime soon. You wouldn’t want to store photos in a site and found them closed shop, leaving blanks in your website, do you? Plus Photobucket drove me up the wall due to bandwith overload and they even closed one of my accounts without notification. It is a big chore to re-organise photos you linked to your weblogs, trust me.
So, it is nice to own a Flickr Pro account if you have the cash to spare. Hey, seeing the Pro little icon there gives you that extra confidence to join groups and post your photos, you know. Hehehe.
